A market on the corner, a century old.
Ten minutes from your front door, Parkdale Market has sold flowers and produce on the same corner since 1926 — open seven days a week, May through October.
Hintonburg is the kind of neighbourhood where the week is organised around the market. Peonies in May, corn and tomatoes in August, gourds and mums in October — twenty-odd stalls of Ottawa Valley growers on Parkdale Avenue, an easy walk down Wellington from St Francis Street.
On summer evenings the market turns into the Parkdale Night Market — new producers, food, live music under the tents. Thursdays, the Hintonburg Night Market takes over Somerset West with local art, vintage and food until nine. In late November the tents come back for the Parkdale Holiday Market.
The street shares its name with Saint-François d'Assise, the 1913 stone parish six minutes up the road at Wellington and Fairmont — a landmark of the Quartier des artistes, Hintonburg's arts district, with galleries clustered around the market and the Great Canadian Theatre Company a few blocks east.
Wellington West on one side, the river and the LRT on the other. Everything a week needs is on foot.
